Dayton, Ohio,
Attorneys Lisa A. Hesse and Stephen V. Freeze successfully defended a local bar association against efforts, through mandamus, by a former licensed attorney to compel production of materials and reports generated during attorney grievance investigations. The local appellate court refused to compel the production. The Ohio Supreme Court agreed, finding that Ohio’s public records act was not a proper mechanism to obtain attorney grievance records and dismissed the attorney’s appeal. The Ohio Supreme Court declined to reconsider its ruling.
