P.J. has two sons. His son, James, is an accountant living in Chicago, Illinois. His younger son, Tyler, is a college student.

P.J. has been involved in Rotary International, Christ United Methodist Church, the Dayton Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Board from 2008 to 2010, and Goodwill Easter Seals as a mentor from 2010 to 2011. He enjoys the Ohio State University sports program, particularly football, theatre, golf and other outdoor activities.
